This is the second-most-cited article authored by Luc Montagnier. This article followed up Montagnier's discovery of clues to retroviral agents in the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and isolation of the HIV virus from such a patient, for which he shared the 2008 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine with Françoise Barré-Sinoussi and Harald zur Hausen for their discoveries of viruses causing severe human diseases (specifically, HIV and HPV types). |
